Hi All
We are the proud owners of a black doodle, Bella. She is twelve weeks old and we have just started taken her out for walks. Two ten minute walks around the block. When we return she is still full of energy and chases her toys around the house! We have heard that you can over walk doodles and cause problems later in life, is this true? She seems to have a great deal of energy.
Tony, Karen and Craig.

Hi Tony, Karen & Craig

Congratulations on your new doodle. Bella is a lovely name!

I was also advised (and read somewhere) not to over exercise when young, so started off by walking round the block and have gradually increased this by now letting him have a run in the park. I also found a local puppy romp that takes place once a week and I have found that 1/2 an hour is enough.

Angus also has loads of energy and does exactly the same as Bella Very Happy

Hi welcome to the forum Smile

doodles do have a lot of energy Laughing
when we take jerry out for a long walk he still has the energy to run around when we get home.We always feed him now before we take him out as he always has a lot of energy after he has eaten!

Alfie was the same . We used to take him out for 3 short walks and gradually built them up.

At dog training when he was a pup they said intelligen dogs like poodles need lots of mental stimulation so we used to play games with him. These involved snifffing out food games and hunt the bonio in the garden.

He loved this but still had loadsof energy.. he seems to need a 3 hr walk to make him really tired. Unfortunately I am whacked out after 2 hr!

Boef also had (and has!) a lot of energy, but our vet told us a simple rule so that you know how long to walk with your young dog. The energy level of your Doodle probably can handle much longer walks, but it's better for their joints not to overdo.

For every month of it's age, you can add 5 minutes to the duration of the walk, and that 3 times a day.
So a 4 month old dog can have 3 times a day a walk from 4 x 5 minutes = 20 minutes

Ofcourse it's a guideline, but for us it was a big help to have an indication.
Good luck with your sweet puppy!

I also read that in a labradoodle book that is not good to give your puppy that much excerise ,so you can let there joint grow, gradually build the walking up as they get older.
