Hi...Archie's a ten-week old F1 Chocolate Labradoodle, currently weighing about 4kg (he's put on 1kg in 2 weeks)

We've had him just over two weeks now, and the breeder weaned him onto Eukanuba Large breed puppy, so she gave us a sack. He didn't seem to be very interested in the food, only really managing about 100grms a day. We spoke to Eukanuba, and they said it was due to the short interest span, and we should be fine

He's been putting on weight nicely, and the vet's given him a clean bill of health. However, we were concerned that he didn't seem to enjoy his food. The vet mentioned weetabix and watered-down goats milk for breakfast - he loved that and wolfed it down, but it did make his poo a bit runny, so we stopped giving it to him. We spoke to our local petshop and they suggested weaning him over to Burns Puppy Bites, and gave us some free samples. For the first few days he loved it, and it seemed to agree with his digetive system, but now he seems to have got bored with that. His appetite's fine, he just seems to be getting bored easily

Anyone experienced the same sort of thing with their doodle? Any suggestions as to how we might be able to introduce a bit of variety?...any nice breakfasts that are puppy-friendly?

Thanks
Smile

Hi Archie doodle welcome to the forum Smile

We had the same problem with jerry, he's a very fussy doodle! we started jerry with dry food as we give that to our other dog but jerry used to spit it out or turn his nose up at it!! Some one said to put a little bit of gravy on it , we tried that and he liked it for a while then got bored with it.
Now jerry will only eat Buthers dog food! its the only one he likes.Fussy fussy dog! Laughing

Hi Archiedoodle. Angus is an F1 black labradoodle and was 14 weeks old yesterday. He currently weighs 11 kilos and I am lucky he has a good appetite.

For breakfast, I give him weetabix, ready brek or low sugar farleys rusks with milk (slightly warm).

I have put him on Hill's science plan (puppy large breed) dried food which I alternate with Butchers tinned food (tripe is his favourite), so he doesn't get bored. As a treat he has chicken, scrambled egg, mashed potato, pasta and a bit of cheese. I have found he also enjoys cooked vegetables.

Hope this helps Wink

Thanks for the reply, it's good to be on board! Laughing

Did you give Jerry the gravy as a puppy, or is it best to hang on until Archie's a bit older?

Other websites have suggested stuff like Scrambled Eggs, Boiled Rice, Weetabix, Porridge...not sure if anyone has tried any of these things?

Thanks!

Hi...thought I would post a quick update...

We've weaned Archie over to Burns puppy bites and he loves them!

The amount required is far less than Eukanuba and the kibbles are a lot smaller - he's now gone from 50g per day to 100g, and is a lot taller. I'll weigh him later, but expect that he will have put on at least 2kg...

Thanks Very Happy

That's great news. It's always a worry when they don't eat Rolling Eyes

Angus seems to be really leggy at the mo with large paws!
