|
|
Hello,
I have just got my doodle, edna a black bitch, shes 9 weeks. Her coat is wavy and molts a little. She has silver hair comming through around her muzzle, under her eyes and slightly at the bottom of her legs. I recently read that doodles with silver ancestory are born black but gradually become silver, going through various colour stages. Ednas dad is a standard silver poodle. However I also read that some just stay black with streaks of silver.
Does anyone know any more about this topic, whether she will remain black or go silver?
Also could anyone advise me how much she is likely to molt? will it become more severe when shes older?
Thanks v much.

Yes i think shes a cutie too, but also a little devil sometimes. Shes an F1 doodle, choclate lab X silver standard poodle but strangely she is black. I know the chocolate gene is recessive, just shows what can be produced... |

Black is the default color in both Labs and Poodles, so it's not at all uncommon to get black pups from parents of other colors.
As to turning silver, How lucky you are! Silver is much less common and usually very beautiful. I have 2 pups that are just over 2 weeks old that I expect to turn silver. Both were born black with just a bit of white under their mouth and between the pads of their feet. Definitely NOT spots... just a tiny cluster of white hairs. I can hardly wait to see what they will mature to look like!
I crossed a black dam with an apricot stud... only 3 of the pups are black out of a litter of 13. The only red of the batch was stillborn, unfortunately. I was quite surprised as I expected a lot more black than that, but I'm not disappointed, as I got a nice range of colors. _________________ Tink

Thanks, interesting stuff.
I really cannot wait either to see how edna matures in colour.
Like you mentioned she also has silver hairs in the middle of her foot pads.
Congrats on your litter... |

HI - I am wondering if your pup will end up with the "Silver Phantom" colouring... The breeder where I got George & Peggy currently has a little of pups from a Mom who is a silver phantom. Some of the pups are also the "Parti" colouring...(they look really odd....)
If you want to see what an adult silver phantom mom looks like, you can visit the website - and either click on "Available Pups" or "RUby's litter".
