I have a lovely 6mth old black labradoodle called ottis. I was planning on having him castrated, but people have told me what a shame that would be as he is such a fantastic dog both in look and temprement! and would make a great stud dog. He has a shortish wavy coat and getting Very Big 29kg at 6mths!!! He does shed hair! but I dont mind! He is a F1 and his Mum and dad come from good stock with good hip scores. Are these type of ladradoodles popular? or do breeders prefer curly coated non sheding variety? What do you need to do if you want to use your dog for stud? I know nothing about it. Any comments gratefully received.

Hi em
were in the same situation as you, were just deciding if we should stud jerry or get him castrated.
I know if you want to stud him you have to have him tested,hip-elbow and eye tested.
we phoned up the vet last week to see how much it was to have him hip scored and its not to bad, hope fully we will stud jerry, were going to ask the vet everything about it.

Did you have any sort of hip/eye scores with Jerry's paperwork?

Have you had him tested yet?

A friend of mine from israel said it was tradition in his country to be given one of the puppies from the stud's litter as additional paymenttp the fee

Wouldn't you loveone of Jerry;s pups?

I think i have decided to have otis castrated when he is a bit older, my cocker spaniel is castrated and is top dog at the mo. I think if i left otis entire it might create a few problems. Anyway i am the only female in my house, have a husband, 2 boys, 2 male cats, and 2 male dogs. I think thats quite anough testosterone for one familly!!

I think your doodle needs to be over a year old then you can get him castrated,i might be wrong.

Were thinking of getting jerry done as he is becoming very randy! he keeps trying to hump my wifes leg!

But i would love to see him father some pups!

Angus is having the op on Friday 15th February. I didn't want to get him done so early, but the vets said it was OK. As I breed pugs, I don't want any pugdoodles!!!

Hi Em

Angus is going to be 7 months at the end of the month. Like you, I do think he is young for the op, but will let you know how he gets on!

Hope Otis will be OK. Keep us updated Wink

Are they keeping Angus in overnight for the op? Or is it done during the day?
