Hi...Archie's four months old now, and 95% of the time he's an absolute angel!

However, he's just started to chew a bit more and his toys and chews tend to take a bit of a beating! Smile

Unfortunately, another target of this chewing sometimes tends to be my fingers...not viscous, or malicious, but they're like needles at the moment so I'd like to nip it in the bud if I can. I've tried yelping like a dog and telling him to stop, but he tends to view that as a bit of a game, which makes him worse - we've also tried standing up and ignoring him, and that seems to have more success...but it's a bit of a pain..

Usually happens about 8pm after his early evening kip - and he's just discovered his bark as well, so he uses the two together...

Anyone got any tips that have worked with their doodle...or is Archie the only puppy that nips out there? Laughing

Thanks

Hi Archie

Yep have the same problem with Angus. At 19 weeks old, his teeth are really sharp. He only tends to mouth me or my daughter (age 11), so my dog trainer recommended that every time he does it (even if it is your sleeve, etc), you should shout OW. Sometimes, he even tries to pull down our trousers by hanging onto the back leg even though we are walking along!

We are also trying to teach him the word LEAVE which will be really useful Smile

Not sure how to tackle the barking as Angus only barks if the other dogs have something he wants. Mind you, it is loud Surprised

Thanks Viv - funnily enough, Archie only tends to bite me and my wife...must like the taste! Laughing

I've tried saying "OW" but he thinks it's a game...I suspect standing up and stopping the fuss is probably going to be the only thing that he's going to respond to

Can't complain really though...he's a fantastic dog otherwise, couldn't have wished for a nicer doodle!

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave

Yeah, sounds as though you're going to have to ignore his behaviour. Just thought, the dog trainer said if shouting OW didn't work, then ignore him and if he still does it, put him in another room for 'time out' for 30 seconds. Haven't done this yet, unless he is going totally mad! Surprised

Angus is 20 weeks old today and we have found a couple of baby back teeth in the lounge, so maybe when all his new teeth are through, it may not be so bad. Also stocked up on loads of chews today from Pets at Home Very Happy
