I have an 11 month black labradoodle (gorgeous) with a fleece coat. Over the winter his coat has become quite matted underneath the top laer. I'd appreciate advice on trimming or clipping.

Jan,
I also have a 11mo black with a fleece coat. This works for me. I got mine on e-bay.

The Furminator! They run pretty expensive but you can find a large one on e-bay cheap too. It really is a chore to keep up with the coat isn't it?Especially this time of year when the seasons change over to cooler weather. Drogar-Angry(LBG) Drogar-Angry(LBG) Drogar-Angry(LBG) Drogar-Angry(LBG)

Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to the furminator as i can only find it for £25. An alternative that works to removed excess molting hair? thanks

at 11 months, it's very possible your pup is blowing it's puppy coat. that then can tangle up with the adult coat and cause a real mess.
If you don't mind a short haired pup for a while, you might consider just have it clipped down short and start fresh with the new coat.
